Privacy Policy

Plain summary. We collect only what we need to operate the Platform. We do not sell your data or use your searches for advertising. Your account data can be deleted on request.
Who we are
Grounds of Judgment ("we", "us", "our") is a Caribbean legal research platform operating at https://askgoj.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information when you access the Platform.

Information we collect
Account information. When you register, we collect your name, email address, and a hashed password. Subscribers additionally provide payment details processed by our third-party payment processor — we do not store card numbers.
Usage data. We collect information about how you use the Platform, including search queries, documents viewed, pages visited, and features used. This helps us improve search quality and surface relevant content.
Device and connection data. We collect your IP address, browser type, operating system, and referring URL. This information is used for security monitoring, abuse prevention, and aggregate analytics.
Cookies and similar technologies. We use session cookies to keep you logged in and analytics cookies to understand aggregate usage patterns. See Section 7 for details.
Communications. If you contact us by email, we retain those communications to respond to your enquiry and to improve our support processes.
How we use your information
We use your personal information to:
(a) provide, operate, and maintain the Platform;
(b) manage your account, process payments, and communicate with you about your subscription;
(c) improve search relevance and Platform features through aggregate usage analysis;
(d) detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or abusive activity;
(e) send you transactional emails such as password resets and billing notifications;
(f) send you optional product updates and research newsletters if you opt in; and
(g) comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your search queries for targeted advertising.
Legal basis for processing
Where data protection legislation applies, we process your personal information on the following bases:
Contract. Processing necessary to provide the Platform and manage your account.
Legitimate interests. Analytics, security monitoring, fraud prevention, and service improvement, where these interests are not overridden by your rights.
Legal obligation. Where processing is required to comply with applicable law.
Consent. For optional marketing communications, where you have opted in. You may withdraw consent at any time.
How we share your information
We share personal information only in the following circumstances:
Service providers. We share information with third-party vendors who assist us in operating the Platform, including cloud hosting, email delivery, and payment processing. These providers are contractually bound to process data only as instructed by us.
Legal requirements. We may disclose information where required by law, court order, or governmental authority.
Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
We do not disclose personal information to law enforcement except where legally compelled or where necessary to protect the safety of users or the public.
Data retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Platform. If you close your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal information within 90 days, except where retention is required by law or legitimate business purposes (such as billing records retained for tax compliance).
Aggregate, de-identified usage data may be retained indefinitely for analytics and product improvement.
Cookies
We use the following categories of cookies:
Essential cookies. Required for authentication and session management. These cannot be disabled without breaking core functionality.
Analytics cookies. We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate usage (pages visited, search volume, feature adoption). These cookies do not track you across other sites.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use the Platform.
Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information, including TLS encryption for data in transit, hashed password storage, and access controls limiting employee access to personal data.
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work diligently to protect your information and will notify you of any breach as required by law.
Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:
(a) access the personal information we hold about you;
(b) request correction of inaccurate personal information;
(c) request deletion of your personal information;
(d) object to or restrict certain processing;
(e) receive your data in a portable format; and
(f) withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

Children
The Platform is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on the Platform and update the effective date. Where changes are material, we will provide prominent notice. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date of the revised policy constitutes acceptance of those changes.
